International Unit
Measure of biological activity, not weight
An international unit, or IU, is a standardized amount based on the biological effect of a substance rather than its weight in grams. The number of IUs that correspond to a given weight varies by substance. IU measurements are used for certain hormones, vitamins, and related compounds.
