Recommendations

  • The 28-day in-use limit for bacteriostatic-water-preserved reconstitutions is an industry standard matching FDA-approved GLP-1 prescribing information. It applies regardless of peptide type when specific data is unavailable.

How stability windows are calculated

This tool applies literature-derived stability defaults and, where available, data from FDA-approved prescribing information for peptide drugs. All outputs are predicted stability windows based on conservative pharmaceutical defaults and industry-standard compounding guidelines. They are not guarantees of potency.

Manufacturer guidance always supersedes this calculator. If your compounding pharmacy provides a beyond-use date (BUD) on the vial label, that date takes precedence. If you are using a brand-name pen product such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound, follow the in-use instructions in the prescribing information, not this tool.

Key stability principles

  • Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides are far more stable than reconstituted solutions. At -20°C, pharmaceutical-grade lyophilized peptides routinely achieve 24-month stability.
  • The 28-day limit for bacteriostatic-water-reconstituted peptides is not specific to any one peptide. It is the universal in-use standard for benzyl-alcohol-preserved multi-dose vials, mirrored in FDA prescribing information for GLP-1 agonists.
  • Sterile water without a preservative has a dramatically shorter window: USP guidelines allow a maximum of 24 hours for Category 1 compounded sterile preparations without antimicrobial agents when stored refrigerated.
  • Never freeze a reconstituted peptide solution. Ice crystal formation during freeze-thaw cycles can irreversibly disrupt peptide secondary structure.
  • Temperature excursions (brief periods outside the recommended range) accelerate degradation and are not accounted for in this model. If a vial has experienced extended room-temperature exposure, treat the stability window as shortened.
