Teduglutide (Gattex) for Fat Loss

FDA-approved GLP-2 analog that promotes intestinal mucosal growth and absorption, used for short bowel syndrome in patients dependent on parenteral support.

Why Teduglutide (Gattex) for fat loss?

According to PubMed, a population-PK and exposure-response analysis across 219 patients found teduglutide 0.05 mg/kg daily produced a maximum reduction in parenteral support of about 5.76 L/week, with an elimination half-life near 1.47 hours in short bowel syndrome (Marier JF et al., Clin Transl Sci 2021). It is FDA-approved (Gattex/Revestive) and well characterized by its label.

Fat Loss context: Reducing body fat percentage through appetite regulation, lipolysis, or metabolic upregulation. Teduglutide (Gattex) fits this goal because its category (Metabolic) and benefit profile align with the underlying mechanism.

Benefits relevant to fat loss

  • Increases intestinal villus height and crypt depth, improving absorption
  • Reduces dependence on parenteral nutrition and IV fluids in short bowel syndrome
  • Approved for both adult and pediatric short bowel syndrome
