Magainin 2
Frog-skin-derived antimicrobial peptide; parent of the pexiganan topical antibiotic.
Onset and duration vary by individual; see the mechanism and half-life above.
Store the lyophilized powder refrigerated (2 to 8 C), or frozen for long-term storage, protected from light. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated and use within about 4 weeks.

What the literature says
Scientific Overview
Magainin 2 is a 23-aa cationic alpha-helical peptide isolated from the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) by Michael Zasloff in 1987. It forms toroidal pores in microbial membranes. Its analog pexiganan (MSI-78) was studied in two Phase 3 trials for diabetic foot ulcers but failed to meet superiority endpoints, leading to FDA non-approval.
