Clinical Trial Phase
Stage of human testing for a compound
Clinical trials are organized into sequential phases that answer different questions. Phase 1 studies focus on safety and dosing in a small number of people. Phase 2 and Phase 3 studies test whether the compound produces the intended effect in larger groups and compare it with other options. Later phases gather more information on safety and benefit before possible regulatory review.
