Cytokine
Small protein that carries immune system messages
Cytokines are proteins released by immune cells and other tissues to coordinate responses to injury or infection. Different cytokines can promote or quiet inflammation and guide cell movement and repair activities. Research on peptides often tracks changes in cytokine levels as one way to observe effects on tissue repair or inflammatory balance.
