Myostatin
Protein that puts a brake on muscle growth
Myostatin is a protein that normally limits the size and number of muscle fibers that develop. When its activity is reduced in research models, muscle tissue can grow larger than usual. Follistatin and certain other compounds are studied because they bind to myostatin and interfere with its normal restraining effect.
