Testosterone Propionate

Testosterone propionate is rapidly hydrolyzed after intramuscular injection to free testosterone. The shorter propionate ester produces a faster rise and more rapid decline in serum testosterone compared with enanthate or cypionate. Free testosterone activates the androgen receptor, regulating gene transcription that mediates male sexual development, protein anabolism, bone mineralization, and erythropoiesis. Aromatization to estradiol occurs in peripheral tissues.
