What the literature says

Scientific Overview

Lixisenatide is an exendin-4 analog with a six-lysine C-terminal extension. Approved in the EU (2013, Lyxumia) and US (2016, Adlyxin) by Sanofi. Short half-life (~3h) makes it more effective for postprandial glucose than fasting glucose. ELIXA trial showed CV neutrality. Discontinued in the US in 2023 due to low uptake.

  • HbA1c: Primary glycemic efficacy marker for incretin therapy.
  • Fasting glucose: Tracks glycemic response and hypoglycemia risk in combination therapy.
  • Lipid panel / ApoB: Incretin therapy commonly improves atherogenic lipids alongside weight loss.
